She finds time to counsel patients concerning proper medication administration, precautions, and potential side effects. Her tireless pursuit of new knowledge and expertise in her field has resulted in her employer recognizing her consistency and value with promotions almost every year of employment. She designed educational programs for pharmacy students that enhance their therapeutic and pharmacokinetic knowledge. Dr. Kole-James is an active collaborator with managing patient medication histories between patients, physicians and colleagues. She bases evaluation and interpretation of prescriptions on all patient demographics as well as Drug Utilization Reviews. This ensures outpatient prescription drugs are appropriate, medically necessary, and not likely to result in adverse medical consequences.
Her goal to educate the public on proper medication use and various disease states has allowed patients to take ownership and responsibility of their health and health care needs. Her fundamental belief is that “the best patient is an informed and educated patient,” also known as patient empowerment. When people are empowered to take charge of their health they make better health decisions for their overall well-being. Patient empowerment will improve health outcomes and help to reduce health care costs.
